JAKARTA - The government will allocate a budget of Rp 8.6 trillion to pay Article 21 income tax, which is usually paid by workers. This policy was made to strengthen the purchasing power of workers in the manufacturing sector.

The policy is one of nine directives stated by President Joko Widodo on Tuesday (24/3) to anticipate the economic slowdown due to the impact of the Covid-19 outbreak. In his directive, President Jokowi also provided an additional Rp 50 thousand per family for the recipient of the staple food card. The additional aid will be provided over the next 6 months. For this policy, the government has allocated a budget of Rp 4.56 trillion.

In addition, the government has budgeted Rp 10 trillion for Workers' Card recipients. Each holder will be given an incentive of Rp 1 million per month for the next 4 months. This policy will be implemented sooner to help workers who are laid off and lose their income. (LK/AR)
