JAKARTA. The Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) revealed that Indonesia's trade balance against China has a fairly large deficit of US$ 18.4 billion. The government is trying to reduce the deficit by inviting Indonesian businessmen to open markets in China.

Director of Export Development Cooperation at the Directorate General of National Export Development (PEN), Marolop Nainggolan, said that in the near future, China will hold a China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) exhibition in its country. That could be an opportunity for Indonesian business players.

"We suggest that our business people can join the expo," he said at the Ministry of Trade Office, Jakarta on Thursday (11/07/2019). At the very least, Indonesia can conduct trade with China with a total value of more than US$ 18 billion to cover the deficit.

Directorate of Market Development and Export Information at Ditjen PEN, Iriana Trimurty Ryacudu on the same occasion said that in the expo, Indonesia has more privilege compared to other countries in ASEAN, since Indonesia is a country of honour and will be prioritized. (AM/AR)
