Likupang established as Special Economic Zone

JAKARTA - Likupang in North Minahasa Regency, North Sulawesi has been established as a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) through Government Regulation No. 84/2019. The bill was passed on December 6, 2019 and enacted on December 10.

In the regulation, the Likupang SEZ is categorised as a tourism zone located on a 197.4-ha area in East Likupang District. The regulation also gives a mandate to North Minahasa Regent Vonnie Anneke Panambunan to appoint enterprises and operators for the SEZ within 90 days after the regulation was enacted.

The Likupang SEZ was first proposed by PT Minahasa Permai Resort to Ms Panambunan and passed on to the National Board for SEZ through North Sulawesi Governor Olly Dondokambey. The government is planning to develop middle-class and premium resorts in the SEZ as well as a cultural centre and the Wallace Conservation. (MS)
