Ministry of Finance to impose sanctions on Deloitte

18 July 2018 14:29

JAKARTA - Deloitte Public Accountant’s Office is threatened with sanctions following the Medium Term Notes (MTN) payment default of PT Sunprima Nusantara Pembiayaan (SNP).

Deloitte was tasked with auditing SNP’s financial statement, used as a base for the MTN issuance.

Head of Ministry of Finance’s Financial Profession Coaching Centre (PPPK) Langgeng Subur said that interrogation has just been done, with a number of findings being highlighted following the investigation.

First, regarding the auditor’s scepticism and their understanding of the SNP Finance’s recording system. Second, regarding the review of the public accountant’s office, suspected to have not reached SNP Finance’s basic documents.

“We have forwarded the temporary findings to the Financial Services Authority (OJK),” said Mr Subur as quoted from Kontan on Tuesday (17/7).

The PPPK will be coordinating with the OJK and request an opinion from the Indonesian Public Accountants Association (IAPI) before proceeding with the sanctions on Deloitte.

According to Mr Subur, a guilty public accountant’s office will likely be charged under Act No. 5/2011 on Public Accountants. Article 21 Clause 1 Part B mentions that a public accountant’s office’s license can be revoked using an administrative sanction.

Head of OJK’s Non-Bank Financial Institution Supervision Department Bambang W. Budiawan said that the OJK will take legal actions against Deloitte Indonesia if a violation has indeed been committed. The OJK can impose sanctions on public accountants and public accountant’s office ranging from written warning, registration freezing, and license revocation. (AM/MS)
