Ministry of Industry spurs the expansion of Makassar industrial area

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry encourages the expansion of the Makassar Industrial Area (KIMA) in South Sulawesi to 1,000 hectares (Ha). Because, at present, the area is almost fully filled, with 250 companies.

"The land in KIMA is very limited or it can be said that the location is almost sold out. So, it needs more expansion so that later it can accommodate many incoming investors,” said Industry Minister Airlangga Hartarto in Jakarta on Friday (1/18).

The total area of ​​KIMA is 270.84 ha, which has been sold reaching 237.39 ha, leaving the remaining 33.45 ha. The South Sulawesi Provincial Government has recommended locations for the expansion of new industrial estates, KIMA 2 in Maros Regency as part of the concept of developing Makassar, Maros, Sungguminasa, Gowa, and Takalar (Mamminasata) areas.

The Minister of Industry explained, his party accelerated the expansion of KIMA because it was in line with the government's efforts to spur growth and industrial and economic equality in eastern Indonesia. Moreover, Indonesia is becoming one of the main investment destinations so it is projected that many industry players will invest their capital. (LM)
