JAKARTA - Biogas Power Plant, a collaboration between PT Perkebunan Nusantara V and the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT), officially operates in the Terantam PTPN V Palm Oil Mill, Tapung Hulu Sub-District, Kampar Regency, Riau, Monday (04/03).

"After going through many discussions and studies, we are grateful that the construction of the Biogas Power Plant (PLTBg) in PKS Terantam in collaboration with BPPT can be completed and formalized together," said PTPN V Managing Director Jatmiko Krisna Santosa.

The construction of the Biogas PLT alone costs an investment of Rp 27 billion. The raw material used to produce electricity comes from palm oil mill effluent (POME) or liquid waste from the Terantam palm oil mill, and is capable of producing electricity of 700 Kilo Watts (KW).

The electricity generated from this plant will be used for the operation of the palm kernel (core) processing plant in Tandun, which currently operates with electricity supply from the Biogas Tandun PLT and supply of fossil fuels.

The Teratam Biogas PLT is the second project at PTPN V, previously the first Biogas PLT has been built in the BUMN Plantation located at PKS Tandun with a power of 1.2 MW. Furthermore, Jatmiko is planning to build the third Biogas PLT at PKS Sei Pagar. (LM)
