JAKARTA. The car sales of PT Astra International Tbk (ASII) reached 188,536 units at the end of April 2022. It is 25.5% higher than the sales number seen in the first four months of 2021.

Until April 2022, Toyota and Lexus cars still dominated the contribution to the total sales of ASII, sporting sales of 109,228 units. Then, Daihatsu follows with 66,437 units, surpassing Isuzu of 11,897 units, UD Trucks of 781 units, and Peugeot of 193 units.

For more detail, 35,669 units of sold cars by April 2022 are low-cost green cars. In comparison, at the end of April 2021, the LCGC sales of ASII was higher at 40,905 units.

In April 2022, ASII controls 56% of market share of car sales in the domestic market. Furthermore, the market shares of LCGC reportedly reached 71%.

Boy Kelana Soebroto, Head of Corporate Communications of ASII, acknowledged the increase of car sales reported in the first four months of this year was supported by the extension of luxury goods tax relaxation policy and the subdued COVID-19 pandemic crisis. Additionally, the automotive exhibition and the surge in demands during the Eid holiday have roles in driving the car sales.

“We hope that this condition will continue to improve and thus promoting the national economic growth this year,” Soebroto expressed his wish. (KR/ZH)
