Ministry of Industry seeks to revitalize the sugar industry in the country

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry continues to make efforts to revitalize the sugar industry in the country to make it more productive and competitive. To be able to meet domestic needs, domestic sugar factories are currently being encouraged to take advantage of modern technology.

"We are also focused on accelerating the construction of new sugar factories integrated with sugar cane plantations, so that they can fully operate," said Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita after accompanying President Joko Widodo at the inauguration of the PT Prima Alam Gemilang (PAG) sugar factory in Bombana, Southeast Sulawesi, Thursday (22/10).

The Minister of Industry emphasized that his party supports the growth of new sugar factories in order to meet the increasing needs of the domestic market, both for direct consumption and as raw material for the food and beverage industry. The Ministry of Industry appreciates PT PAG Bombana for investing in building an integrated sugar factory with sugar cane gardens. and take advantage of automation in the production process. So, it is believed that the company will increase productivity and quality more efficiently.

Work on the construction of the sugar factory which was inaugurated by the President began in early 2017 and began production in August 2020. The sugarcane processing capacity of this factory is 8,000 tons of cane per day (TCD), which can be increased to 12,000 TCD. With this capacity, the factory is able to produce 800 to 1,200 tons of white crystal sugar per day.

PT PAG Bombana will become a sugar factory with the largest production volume in Indonesia owned by domestic entrepreneurs. This company is also supported by the source of raw material for the plasma nucleus sugarcane area of ​​22,797 hectares. (LM)
