Denpasar - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) continues to improve connectivity between economic growth centers such as port areas with tourism and metropolitan areas in various regions, one of which is the construction of toll roads. For this reason, the PUPR Ministry together with the Toll Road Business Entity (BUJT) will start the construction of the Gilimanuk-Mengwi Toll Road in Bali in mid-2022.

In the construction of this toll road, Minister Basuki emphasized to always maintain environmental harmony. “Initially we were going to build a toll road in the middle of the island of Bali, but it will definitely damage the environment a lot. For that we take the coastal route. Later it will be equipped with a bicycle lane which is the first toll road in Indonesia, because this is a tourism area, we must adjust it," said Minister Basuki.

Head of the Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) Danang Parikesit explained that the Gilimanuk–Mengwi Toll Road will start construction in June 2022 after obtaining free land and is expected to be completed and operated in November 2024. The presence of this toll road will reduce the travel time from Gilimanuk Port to Denpasar City Metropolitan Area, Badung Regency, Gianyar Regency and Tabanan Regency (Sarbagita) from 6 hours to 2 hours.

The Gilimanuk-Mengwi Toll Road project was carried out by PT Tol Jagat Kerthi Bali as the consortium that won the auction. The concession period for the Gilimanuk–Mengwi Toll Road is 50 years from the issuance of the Work Start Order (SPMK) with an investment value of IDR 24.6 Trillion and an IRR of 11.46%. (LM)
