The cigarette industry is still thriving in Indonesia as a big proportion of the people are its active consumers. There are five major public cigarette manufacturers in Indonesia: Gudang Garam, Sampoerna, Bentoel, Wismilak, and Indonesian Tobacco. Here is the overview of these cigarette manufacturers' sales by mid-2019.

PT Gudang Garam Tbk recorded the biggest sales at Rp52.74 trillion, followed closely by PT Hanjaya Mandala Sampoerna Tbk at Rp50.72 trillion. Interestingly, Sampoerna brands (Dji Sam Soe, Sampoerna, and Marlboro) generated more profit than the Gudang Garam brand, Rp6.77 trillion and Rp4.28 trillion respectively. Sampoerna also holds the biggest profit margin at 13%, compared to Gudang Garam at 8%.

Behind these two major companies is PT Bentoel Internasional Investama at Rp10.22 trillion value of sales. Unfortunately, Bentoel is also the only cigarette manufacturer involved in a loss at Rp312.32 billion point.

PT Wismilak Inti Makmur Tbk and PT Indonesian Tobacco Tbk reported under Rp1 trillion sales this term. Wismilak established Rp649.31 billion in sales and Rp8.55 billion in profit, while Indonesian Tobacco acquired the least sales at Rp79.22 billion and Rp1.08 billion in profit.

From the sales segment, Bentoel has the highest export sales percentage at 12.24% while the other manufacturers are all under 4%. For the local market, Sampoerna sells 99.62% of their products to local consumers, Indonesian Tobacco at 98.73%, Gudang Garam at 98.46%, and Wismilak at 96.43%. (KD)
