JAKARTA. PT Chandra Asri Petrochemical Tbk (TPIA) began using processed plastic waste for asphalt mixture, in a 10-kilometre highway construction project in Cilegon, Banten.
Erwin Ciputra, President Director of the TPIA, said that the road paving project using a mixture of plastic waste is a collaboration between the company and Mayor of Cilegon. TPIA claimed that asphalt roads that used High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) would be 40% more stable.
Meanwhile, Suhat Miyarso, Vice President of Corporate Affairs at TPIA, explained that his party would prepare around 30 tons of used plastic bags for asphalt mixture. "We will provide used plastic bags that have been chopped," Miyarso said in his official statement on Thursday (14/2).
In addition, Miyarso assessed that this cooperation program will change people's views in processing plastic waste. "From without value to become valuable," said Miyarso. (KR/AR)
