JAKARTA. PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BBCA) will launch its electronic payment cooperation service with Alipay and WePay in the second quarter of this year to gain some profits.
Jahja Setiaatmadja, President Director of BBCA, said the service will be launched in stages in selected regions. "It cannot be (launched) nationally at the very beginning. We choose several regions, "Setiaatmadja said as quoted by Kontan, on Friday (1/3) today. "Bali first, then Batam," he added.
Alipay and WePay are two digital wallets belonging to the instant communication platform from China, WeChat. BBCA sees the potential of these two digital wallets to develop in Indonesia, especially among foreign tourists.
Setiaatmadja believes that Bank Indonesia (BI) as the central bank will give its permission regarding this cooperation. Through this collaboration, BBCA will get a commission from each transaction. Nevertheless, Setiaatmadja was reluctant to mention in more detail the mechanism of the commission. (KR/AR)
