JAKARTA. A number of bankers are optimistic that multipurpose loan growth this year will continue to increase, following the increase in demand for credit.
PT Bank CIMB Niaga Tbk for instance, stated that as of the first quarter, the multipurpose loan business grows at the level of 12%. Consumer Director of CIMB Niaga, Lani Darmawan, said that the growth was in line with the company's business expansion. "Our target for this year is [for the multipurpose loan business] to grow by 12% -15%, including in the first semester of 2019," he said on Monday (1/4).
Meanwhile, CIMB Niaga's multipurpose loans are dominated by the upper middle class who are the company's existing customers. With an average loan or ticket size from the upper middle segment (primary) of Rp 5 billion. CIMB Niaga deliberately disbursed loans to the upper middle segment to maintain stable growth and also the ratio of non-performing loans (NPLs).
In the last two months (January-February), PT Bank Tabungan Negara Tbk (BTN) was recorded to have distributed multipurpose loans to more than 1,180 debtors with total loans reaching Rp 250 billion. Director of Risk, Strategy and Compliance of BTN, Mahelan Prabantarikso said that the average value of this type of loan was Rp 215 million per debtor. When compared with the January-February 2018 period, this realization grew by 20% year on year (YoY).
Seeing the improved number, the housing loan specialist bank targets that in the first semester of 2019 the number of multipurpose loans can reach Rp 1 trillion. "It is predicted that by the end of the year, it will be realized in the range of Rp 2.5 trillion," he explained. (AM/AR)
