19 November 2018 11:21

JAKARTA - The campaign on environmental issue done by Greenpeace towards the production of crude palm oil (CPO) commodities is considered as a threat and may affect the export performance of Indonesia.

Benny Soetrisno, The Chairperson of Trading Division of Asosiasi Pengusaha Indonesia (Apindo) asked the government of Indonesia to take the actions needed to secure the interest of national economy in the global market. 'The country should be at the same side with the palm oil which is currently under the threat of Greenpeace," said Benny as quoted by Kontan last weekend.

"Because the country also gains the benefit from foreign exchange income," said Benny.

Also, Benny asked the government to freeze the activities of Greenpeace in Indonesia, since it may affect the export rate of CPO to the European market. " For that, Indonesia may follow the example made by India that freezes the activities of Greenpeace," said Benny.

Meanwhile, Kiki Taufik, The Head of Global Forest Campaign of Greenpeace in Southeast Asia, pushed for Mondelez, a food company to stop the CPO trade with PT Wilmar Cahaya Indonesia Tbk. "Until their palm oil is proven to be safe for the forest," said Kiki. (KR/AR)
