Garuda Indonesia launches its cargo freighter service

JAKARTA - Indonesia's national airline, Garuda Indonesia officially launched a cargo freighter service in collaboration with MY Indo Airlines which began operating on 26 January. The cargo freighter service will be operated with a fleet of B737-300F with a capacity of 15 tonnes.

The operation of the cargo freighter service will later serve the air cargo transportation service to five large islands in Indonesia, Sumatra, Java, Sulawesi, Kalimantan and Papua. The service will run for 4 times a week, namely every Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.

President Director of Garuda Indonesia, Ari Askhara, stated, "The operation of the Cargo Freighter service is part of the company's ongoing commitment to increase the volume of Garuda Indonesia's air cargo service business which is more competitive while supporting the commitment of the National Logistics System (Sislognas) launched by the government to increase Indonesia's logistics performance competitiveness,” explained Ari.

Through the presence of this cargo freighter service, Garuda Indonesia projects the target of cargo transportation traffic that can be optimized by Garuda Indonesia will reach more than 1 million tons of cargo transport in the first quarter of 2019. (LM)
