Nanjung Tunnel will reduce the area of ​​flooding in Bandung basin

BANDUNG - Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) is completing the construction of the Upper Citarum River Flood Control System in the form of normalization of rivers in the upstream, construction of Embung Gedebage, construction of the Cieunteung retention pond, construction of the Cisangkuy Floodway and Construction of the Nanjung Tunnel. The construction of flood control infrastructure also aims to support the Harum Citarum Program.

One of the infrastructures being built is the Nanjung Tunnel visited by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on Sunday, March 10, 2018. The construction of the Nanjung Tunnel will accelerate the flow of the Citarum River downstream so that the length and extent of flood in the Bandung basin area can be reduced. "It is expected to overcome the flooding in Bandung, especially in the areas of Dayeuhkolot, Baleendah and Bojongsoang. It is targeted at the end of this year. So the following rainy season has seen the function of this tunnel," said President Jokowi.

Later on, the Nanjung Tunnel along with the Citarum River flood control infrastructure, such as the Cieunteung retention pond, Cisangkuy floodway, Gedebage embankment and normalization of the Citarum River will reduce the inundation area by 700 hectares, from 3,461 hectares to 2,761 hectares.

For information, the Nanjung Tunnel consists of 2 tunnels with a length of 230 meters and a diameter of 8 meters. The construction of the tunnel has begun in November 2017 with the current progress reaching 22% and is targeted to be completed by the end of 2019. The project is carried out by PT. Wijaya Karya and PT. Adhi Karya (Cooperation Operations) with a budget of Rp 352 billion. (LM)
