JAKARTA. PT Bank BRI Syariah Tbk (BRIS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Al Rajhi Bank Malaysia. The partnership aims to facilitate Indonesian hajj and umrah pilgrims in conducting financial transactions.

Hadi Santoso said the partnership would improve the efficiency of financial transactions in the hajj and umrah industry due to the use of the Islamic Payment Gateway system directly connected to Al Rajhi.

"Money and forex transactions from BRIsyariah customers to Al Rajhi and Saudi Arabia's Riyadh Bank customers will be faster, from two days using the swift facility," said Mr Santoso in an official statement, Saturday (30/3).

Al Rajhi Bank Malaysia Chief Operating Officer Zarir Mohd Rawi added that the partnership can facilitate Indonesian hajj and umrah industrial players in conducting financial transactions such as money and forex transfers with competitive prices.

Throughout 2018, BRI Syariah gathered 731,030 hajj customers, up 39% year on year from 2017 with 525,900 accounts. In order to facilitate transactions, this year BRI Syariah has also launched a Hajj Implementation Cost (BPIH) repayment through BRIS Online. (AM/MS)
