Indonesia AirAsia believes LCC terminal at CGK will boost number of passengers

29 April 2019 14:23

JAKARTA - PT AirAsia Indonesia Tbk (CMPP) is optimistic that a dedicated low-cost carrier terminal (LCCT) at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK) will boost the number of passengers.

PT Angkasa Pura (AP) II (Persero) has decided to operate CGK’s Terminal 2F as an LCCT starting from May 1, 2019.

“We are very excited. This will surely increase the number of passengers,” Indonesia AirAsia CEO Dendy Kurniawan told Bisnis Indonesia, Sunday (28/4).

Mr Kurniawan added that LCCTs are designed to be as simple as possible so that the Air Passenger Service (PJP2U) tariff can be cheaper. A cheaper PJP2U tariff, he added, is needed by LCCs to keep airfares low.

Indonesia AirAsia had suggested the development of an LCCT since mid-2018 to increase competitiveness and provide passengers with more affordable airfares. According to Mr Kurniawan, LCCs that land in airports with full-service terminals would struggle to remain competitive. (MS)
