JAKARTA—The trade of PT Gajah Tunggal Tbk (GJTL) shares is largely unaffected by the corruption case that involves owner Sjamsul Nursalim and his wife Itjih Nursalim.

On Friday (28/6) the Corruption Eradication Commission summoned Mr and Mrs Nursalim as suspects of corruption allegations related to the Bank Indonesia Liquidity Asisstance (BLBI) case.

"Both were summoned as suspects," KPK Head of Communication and Public Relations Yuyuk Andriati told the press.

Despite that, in the first trading session of the day GJTL stock price surged slightly from Rp 690 to Rp 700 per share. The shares' performance is in line with the Gajah Tunggal management's assertion that company operations are not affected by the case involving Mr and Mrs Nursalim.

After the company's Annual General Meeting of Shareholders (AGM) on Thursday (27/6), Gajah Tunggal Director for Corporate Communication and Investor Relations Catharina Widjaja said the company's operations were running normally. According to her, any company matter related to Mr Nursalim's case must be run in accordance with procedures due to the company's status as a public company.

Ms Widjaja added that Gajah Tunggal continues to obey the law and follow existing procedures as a public company. She also declined to comment further on Mr Nursalim's involvement in the company. (ARM/MS)
