JAKARTA - National airline PT Garuda Indonesia Tbk (GIAA) introduces GIA Box, an environmentally friendly packaging product for cargo shipments. GIA Box is planned to be launched in August and will be a substitute for Styrofoam which has been used as a packaging for shipping cargo, especially marine products.

Director of Cargo & Business Development of Garuda Indonesia, Mohammad Iqbal said that the GIA Box is not only a strong and affordable media packaging for shipping goods, but also environmentally friendly considering that the packaging products already have FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certificates whose ingredients come from recycled products.

Iqbal continued that in the future, GIA Box will replace the use of Styrofoam as a whole. "In 2019, we are targeting sales of 20,000 GIA Box and it is expected that in 2020 it can be implemented to replace all Styrofoam as many as 250,000 boxes per year," added Iqbal.

For information, Garuda Indonesia has also carried out trials of electric vehicles produced by the nation's PT Mobil Anak Bangsa in supporting the operational mobility of employees. (LM)
