15 July 2019 15:46

JAKARTA. Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTA) Rajamandala has now begun operations, with a capacity of 47 megawatts (MW).

Harris, Director of New and Renewable Energy of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), said that this project is one of the efforts to reach the target of 23% portion of new and renewable energy by 2025. "Not only contributes to national energy supply, but also plays an important role in overcoming the problem of climate change," Harris explained through an official statement received by idnfinancials.com on Monday (15/7).

The construction of PLTA Rajamandala is carried out by PT Rajamandala Electric Power (REP), a joint venture between PT Indonesia Power and Kansai Electric Power from Japan. The investment for the plant is US$ 150 million, and the construction begun in 2012.

At present, PLTA Rajamandala is operating commercially. For information, the development of the PLTA was stopped in 2016, due to unstable geological conditions, which causes cracks on the plant (KR/AR)
