Kalbe Farma prepared to support National Health Insurance scheme

17 July 2019 07:08

JAKARTA - PT Kalbe Farma Tbk (KLBF) remains prepared to support the National Health Insurance (JKN) scheme despite the disruption it causes in the health industry.

According to Kalbe Farma Marketing Director Mulia Lie, the demand for generic health products continues to rise in line with the growth of JKN participants. “KLBF has prepared everything to join new tenders in the second semester to anticipate [the growth of JKN participants],” said Mr Lie as quoted by Kontan.co.id, Tuesday (16/7).

Mr Lie added that Kalbe Farma through its subsidiaries also continues to carry out product diversification to anticipate tight competition in supporting the JKN scheme. Medical equipment, as well as medicines, has major contribution to the programme.

Primarily, the JKN scheme affects the sales of generic medicines. Currently, Mr Lie said, Kalbe Farma’s factory in Cikarang, West Java is able to 100% produce generic medicines through its subsidiary PT Hexpharm Jaya Laboratories.

“In terms of generic medicine production, KLBF focuses more on volume. The economic values of large-scale production are managed with production tweaks. Thus, KLBF still makes a profit from generic medicines,” concluded Mr Lie. (MS)
