Telkom in talks to provide 5G network for paper company

JAKARTA - PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (TLKM) or Telkom affirmed that there has been a “serious discussion” between the company and a potential client regarding 5G network provision, although the development of the technology is still awaiting regulations and spectrum readiness.

According to Telkom CEO Ririek Adriansyah, currently the company has been studying the use of 5G for business to business (B2B0, although he forecasts that the technology will only be available in Indonesia in the next one or two years.

“Telkomsel has started an early discussion with one company located on one of the islands [in Indonesia]. The company is from the paper industry, and it is interested in using 5G from us,” said Mr Adriansyah as quoted by Kontan.co.id, Monday (15/7).

Mr Adriansyah added that the potential of B2B is more relevant for 5G and there has been a serious discussion regarding its development, although it is not yet final due to the current lack of regulations.

“We’ve talked to the Minister [of Communications and Information Rudiantara. He is also open to operators interested in 5G trials in particular and limited areas,” said Mr Adriansyah. (MS)
