BPJS Kesehatan forecasts Rp 28 trillion deficit this year

29 July 2019 15:16

JAKARTA. The Social Security Administration Agency for Health or BPJS Kesehatan has projected a deficit of up to Rp 28 trillion this year.

The prediction was calculated from a combination of this year's deficit, projected at Rp 19 trillion, and last year's debt of Rp 9.1 trillion. However, the figure can still increase.

"The figure can change depending on the budget plan," said BPJS Kesehatan CEO Fahmi Idris at the Presidential Palace Complex in Central Jakarta, Monday (27/7).

Mr Idris explained that BPJS Kesehatan and the government are currently discussing a concrete solution to solve the company's deficit, including through raising the current premiums. The current premiums are divided based on classes.

Class I participants pay Rp 80,000 per month while class II participants pay Rp 51,000 and class III participants pay Rp 25,500. However, Mr Idris said that the government and the company are still studying several options.

"We don't know yet if we will increase the current premiums and further discussions are still needed. The President has asked for more discussion on a ministerial level," said Mr Idris. (AM/MS)
