JAKARTA - PT Wijaya Karya Beton Tbk (WTON) or Wika Beton has prepared 26 hectares of land to develop a piling plant in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan as part of the company’s contribution to the Indonesian government's plan to relocate the country's capital city to Kalimantan.

“Obviously there are significant infrastructure needs in the new capital, and we can see that Rp 466 trillion has been budgeted just for the basics. It’s likely that the biggest allocation will be infrastructure,” said Wika Beton COO I Ketut Pasek Senjaya Putra at a press conference at the IDX Building, Wednesday (21/8).

Wika Beton CFO Imam Sudiyono added that the company has prepared investment funds amounting to Rp 100 billion to develop the Balikpapan plant. The plant, he said, will have a production capacity of 60-100 pilings per day.

“The capacities of our plants always grow, and for starters we have to adjust [the capacities] to existing demands,” Mr Sudiyono told the press after the company’s public expose.

However, Mr Sudiyono declined to reveal when the development of the plant will commence. According to him, the development phases will depend on the state-owned housing holding company. (MS)
