JAKARTA. The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) estimates that the budget needed for road repairs on the Kalimantan border to reach Rp 4.5 trillion until 2024.

Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of PUPR, admitted that the road repair will open a number of isolated areas and accelerate economic growth in the border region. "It is the implementation of President Joko Widodo and Vice President Jusuf Kalla's Nawa Cita," Hadimuljono said in a press release.

Meanwhile, Sugiyartanto, Director General of Highways, said that his party would prioritize the paving of roads that would provide access to housings and public facilities. Today, 317.05 kilometres of road in Kalimantan has been paved , or around 38% of the government's target of 1,920 kilometres.

"It is planned that by the end of 2024 all of them will be paved," said Sugiyartanto. (KR/AR)
