JAKARTA. Minister of Tourism (Menpar), Arif Yahya, explained the three main problems faced by domestic tourism; the environment, infrastructure, and cleanliness. To solve those problems, it needs a budget of Rp 10 trillion ...

In the Third National Coordination Meeting for Tourism event, Arif said that his party wanted to solve the problem and make tourism the largest foreign exchange earner in Indonesia.

"At present, the largest foreign exchange earners are coal and CPO, followed by tourism. With the collaboration of various institutions, we are confident that we can achieve it," Arif said at Swissotel PIK Avenue, North Jakarta on Tuesday (10/9).

Based on data presented by Arif, in 2018 the Ministry of Tourism, contributed Rp 19.2 trillion of foreign exchange in total. The figure was generated from foreign tourists (15.8 million) and domestic ones (303 million). Meanwhile, throughout 2014 to 2018, the growth of foreign tourists increased by 67.6%.

Arif further said that one of the ways taken to solve the three problems was to facilitate access to business and investment and simplify the bureaucracy.

At present, he said, the government provided a budget of Rp 6.5 trillion, but the amount prepared by the government was still insufficient. Arif said that his party needed Rp 10 trillion to realize the government's dream of giving birth to create "New Bali". (AM/AR)
