Abraham Samad: KPK board of supervisors ‘unnecessary’

13 September 2019 14:11

BOGOR - Former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Chairman Abraham Samad, who held the post from 2011 to 2015, believes that the formation of KPK’s board of supervisors as contained in the planned revision of Law No. 30/2002 concerning KPK proposed by the House of Representatives is unnecessary.

“A board of supervisors to monitor KPK officials and employees is unnecessary,” said Mr Samad in a discussion entitled KPK di Ujung Tanduk (KPK at Stake) in Bogor, West Java as quoted by Bisnis.com, Thursday (12/9).

Without a board of supervisors, Mr Samad added, KPK’s monitoring system is already adequate with a zero tolerance approach to any violation. According to him, the resistance to the planned revision of the KPK Law is part of the corruption eradication movement in Indonesia and does not aim to simply save the commission.

“We’re not resisting changes, but we’re resisting the substance in the planned revision,” concluded Mr Samad. (MS)
