Analyst: KPK Law revision will disrupt investment climate

18 September 2019 06:25

JAKARTA - PT Samuel Sekuritas Chief Economist Lana Soelistianingsih assesses that the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Law revision will disrupt domestic investment climate. According to Ms Soelistianingsih, the revision will prompt foreign investors to doubt the government’s commitment to fighting corruption and other white collar crimes.

“If the point [of the revision] is to reduce KPK’s discretion, such as making it mandatory to report every tapping, investors will feel that the government is not determined enough to fight corruption,” Ms Soelistianingsih told Bisnis Indonesia, Tuesday (17/9).

Corruption, she added, still stands in the way of a conducive investment climate in Indonesia. This contradicts the government’s wish to attract more foreign investors to boost the country’s economic growth.

“Despite the fact that Indonesia is seeking more investment, there are concerns that the KPK Law revision will make corruption more rampant and it will shake investors’ confidence,” Ms Soelistianingsih affirmed. (MS)
