Ministry of Industry eyes investment in semiconductor industry

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry continues to look for new investors who can support the downstream sector in the domestic electronics industry. This is in order to produce substitutes for imported raw materials, while at the same time encouraging increased productivity in order to meet the needs of the domestic market to export.

"Currently, the government is targeting two things, namely investment and exports. For this reason, the government is determined to create a conducive business climate by facilitating business licenses and fiscal and non-fiscal incentive facilities," said Director General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation and Electronics Industry (ILMATE) Ministry of Industry, Harjanto in Jakarta, Sunday (9/22) .

Throughout 2018, the investment value of the electronics industry reached Rp 12.86 trillion, up compared to 2017 which was Rp 7.81 trillion. "This year, it is targeted that there will be a number of new investments coming in, totaling a total value of Rp1.3 trillion with a projected total employment of 248.5 thousand people," said the Director of the Electronics and Telematics Industry Ministry of Industry, Janu Suryanto.

Janu said the investors included the semiconductor and electronic component industries, the household electrical equipment industry, the computer industry, electronic and optical goods, and the engineering equipment industry. These companies included PT Sammyung Precision Batam, PT Simatelex Manufactory Batam, PT Pegatron Technology Indonesia, and PT Siix Electronics Indonesia. (LM)
