Sultan Hasanuddin Airport to be expanded

MAKASSAR - During a working visit to Makassar, the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said that Sultan Hasannuddin Airport would be expanded threefold. Thus, the area of ​​the airport will change from around 50,000 m² to around 150,000 m².

"Hasanuddin Airport has become the HUB (connecting) of eastern Indonesia, almost all flights to eastern Indonesia pass through Makassar. Now the area is only 50,000 M2 and is being built three times ;arger as 150,000 M2. With this it is expected that capacity will increase to 15 million passengers," explained the Minister of Transportation.

Expansion of the parking lot at Sultan Hasanuddin Airport will also be carried out, the area of ​​the parking lot which was originally nearly 40 m² will be expanded to 72 m². The airport expansion is planned to be completed in 2021.

Going forward, the Sultan Hasanuddin Makassar Airport, managed by PT Angkasa Pura I, will continue to be developed until the ultimate stage, where the development is divided into four phases. After the development of Phase I began at the beginning of this year, Phase II development will begin in 2024 where at this stage, passenger capacity will increase to 21 million passengers per year and parking stand capacity to 47 parking stands.

Phase III development will begin in 2034 with the addition of terminal capacity to 30.8 million passengers per year with 64 parking stands. While the Phase IV development will begin in 2044 with the ultimate terminal capacity reaching 40 million passengers per year with 78 parking stands. (LM)
