30 September 2019 05:26

JAKARTA. PT Garuda Indonesia Tbk (GIAA) will rely on cargo as a source of revenue growth this year.

In the first semester of 2019, GIAA's revenue from the cargo business grew by 29.87% to US$ 161.62 million.

Director of Cargo and Business Development at GIAA, Mohammad Iqbal, explained that e-commerce was a big opportunity for Garuda Indonesia to increase its cargo revenue. "This year, we purchased three freighter aircraft from Opex, the investment is not much," he said as quoted by Kontan.co.id on Sunday (29/9).

According to Iqbal, from the three freighters, one of them is a passenger aircraft converted into freighter. The converted aircraft is the Boeing 737 Classic, and the company spent US$ 1.5 million for the conversion.

The target, this year, GIAA' cargo revenue growth can exceed 30%. (AM/AR)
