18 October 2019 11:19

JAKARTA - Grab has announced a strategic partnership with PT PLN (Persero) to develop an electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem in Indonesia.

The deal was signed on Wednesday (16/10) by PLN’s acting CEO Sripeni Inten and Grab Indonesia President Ridzki Kramadibrata in the presence of Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.

“Grab is committed to developing the electric vehicle ecosystem through a US$ 2 billion investment for Indonesia,” said Mr Kramadibrata in an official statement.

“We believe that electric vehicles can be an option for our driver-partners and a long-term solution for Indonesia, especially to reduce air pollution.”

The initiative will be carried out gradually, starting in the Greater Jakarta area. Currently Grab has launched a pilot project for two-wheeled and four-wheeled electric vehicles with PLN supplying electricity and charging stations. (MS)
