Chinese stocks plunge as GDP hits slowest growth in 27 years

SHANGHAI - Chinese stocks fell on Friday (18/10) as the country’s third quarter GDP growth was revealed to be the slowest in 27 years at only 6%.

As reported by Reuters, the blue-chip CSI300 index dropped 1.4% to 3,869.38 while the Shanghai Composite Index (SSEC) slipped 1.3% to 2,938.14. Throughout the week, CSI300 shed 1.1% while SSEC fell 1.2%.

In addition, as of 07:04 GMT today the yuan exchange rate was recorded at 7.0849 per US dollar, 0.11% weaker than the previous close of 7.0772. (MS)
