Jokowi: Developers should not use imported materials for infrastructure projects

07 November 2019 09:02

JAKARTA. President Joko Widodo or Jokowi stressed that developers should not use imported materials in working on the government's infrastructure projects, to strengthen domestic demand.

"Don't let infrastructure development use too many imported materials and leave our SME (Small and Medium Enterprises)," Jokowi explained as quoted by Kontan on Thursday (7/11) today.

Jokowi claimed that some materials such as steel and construction materials were already available in the country. Therefore, the construction sector is expected to reduce the current account deficit.

In addition, Jokowi also emphasized that the State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) should not take all infrastructure projects. "Please give priority to the private sector first, if they do not want it, then BUMN can take it, especially those with low internal rate of return because there is an injection of payment," (KR/AR)
