Indonesia to strengthen cooperation with China

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Trade through the Directorate General of National Export Development (PEN) held an Indonesia-China business forum on the sidelines of the 2nd China International Import Expo in Shanghai, China on Wednesday (6/11).

"Increasing ASEAN-China FTA cooperation will not only increase economic and trade cooperation between the two parties, but also increase overall market access," said Director General of PEN Dody Edward.

In the trade sector, China is Indonesia's largest trading partner for the past eight years. In 2018, the total trade between the two countries reached USD 72.6 billion. Indonesia's main export products to China include natural gas, coal, and mining, palm oil and pulp. While Indonesia's imported products from China include electronics, garlic, machinery, iron, and steel.

Another important aspect in the Indonesia-China bilateral relations is infrastructure which is very related to investment. Indonesia plans to develop 1,000 km of railroads which include the Trans-Sumatra railroad, Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), and Light Rapid Transit (LRT). The Indonesian government also plans to build 8 airports, 10 seaports, 96 sea toll routes, and 30 Special Economic Zones. (LM)
