Sales of Toyota cars in 2019 is estimated to be 6% lower than in 2018

JAKARTA. Marketing Director of PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) Anton Jimmi Suwandy estimates that the sales of Toyota cars in 2019 will be 6% lower than in 2018.

According to him, car sales in Indonesia this year fell by 11%. Total car sales are projected to be only around 1 million units, while in 2018, the figure reached 1,151,413. Anton claimed there were two factors causing the decline in car sales this year, election and weakening global economy.

"This year won't be the same as last year, (by) October, the decline was around 10%," Anton said at Menara Astra, Jakarta, Monday (25/11).

But data from the Association of Indonesia Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) showed that Toyota still holds the largest market share in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, data received by CNBC Indonesia revealed that during January-October 2019, Astra sold 447,538 cars, 7.62% lower than the figure recorded in the same period last year. (AM/AR)
