JAKARTA. PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk stated that it would no longer continue its partnership with digital payment service providers from China, WeChat and Alipay. The state-owned bank will focus more on developing LinkAja.

"We tried it, but it was a pilot, it seems that we will not continue (the partnership) for the time being. We are more focused on developing LinkAja together with other Himbara members," said President Director of BNI, Achmad Baiquni after a hearing with the Commission XI of the House of Representatives on Tuesday (26/11).

Currently, LinkAja is still owned by seven SOEs, Telkom Group, Bank Mandiri, BRI, BNI, PT Pertamina (Persero) Tbk, Jiwasraya, and Dana Reksa.

Director of LinkAja recently mentioned that a number of well-known state-owned companies are ready to inject funds, such as PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) and Jasa Marga (Persero).

WeChat and AliPay actually do not yet have permission from Bank Indonesia. In accordance with Bank Indonesia Regulation (PBI) Number 19/8 / PBI / 2017 concerning the National Payment Gateway (GPN), foreign payment service providers (PJSPs) who wish to operate in Indonesia must cooperate with domestic PJSPs, namely Commercial Banks Business Activities (BUKU) IV.
