28 November 2019 15:43

JAKARTA. The Financial Services Authority (OJK) said that the recovery effort of PT Bank Muamalat Tbk should not be transfixed to a certain deadline because OJK is still exploring several prospective investors.

OJK Deputy Commissioner for Banking Supervision III Slamet Edy Purnomo said OJK is still awaiting answers to a number of commitments from existing and prospective investors that will bail out Bank Muamalat.

According to Mr Purnomo, there are persistent existing investors as well a consortium interested to invest. "We will wait for the next one or two months," he said at the Parliament Complex, Wednesday (27/11).

Mr Purnomo said that the consortium still needs to meet certain requirements. On the other hand, existing investors are still reviewing whether to up their stakes or not, with consideration to macroeconomic conditions, the prospect of sharia banking, and other global conditions.

Mr Purnomo also did not deny the option to merge state-owned banks, adding that communication has been going on and produced evaluation materials. (AM/MS)
