Permata Bank economist: Domestic consumption affects Indonesia economic resilience

05 December 2019 13:57

JAKARTA - PT Bank Permata Tbk (BNLI) economist Josua Pardede assesses that Indonesia’s dependence on domestic consumption affects its economic resilience against external factors. Thus, the government needs to maintain and increase household consumption to improve economic resilience.

In addition, Mr Pardede also stressed that Indonesia’s economic resilience amid global uncertainty is also affected by the overall policy mix from Bank Indonesia (BI), the Ministry of Finance, and the government.

“Indonesia also has policies that will attract foreign investors such as the Omnibus Law or the recently revised tax allowance policy,” said Mr Pardede at the Indonesia Economic Outlook 2020 held by Permata Bank at the Raffles Hotel, South Jakarta as quoted by Bisnis.com, Wednesday (4/12).

Indonesia, said Mr Pardede, has positive economic growth potential in the coming years if it can withstand global uncertainty in 2020. He also added that policy synchronisation between BI, the Ministry of Finance, and the government needs to be maintained and improved further. (MS)
