JAKARTA. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has teamed up with the Danish government to develop new and renewable energy through the drafting of a Regional Energy General Plan in four provinces.

Energy Minister Arifin Tasrif said that the Danish government is supporting the partnership, adding that it will help Indonesia reduce the use of fossil fuel in the coming years.

"Our challenge is to make use of new and renewable energy in our outlook and reduce our dependence on fossil fuel," said Mr Tasrif.

Danish Development Cooperation Minister Rasmus Prehn said he hopes his development recommendation can help Indonesia develop affordable renewable energy sources. "This recommendation will result in cheaper and more efficient renewable energy sources produced by the implemented technology," said Mr Prehn.

In the plan offered by the Danish government, renewable energy development in Indonesia will take place in North Sulawesi, Gorontalo, South Kalimantan, and Riau and include hydropower, solar power, and windpower. (KR/MS)
