JAKARTA - The government is aggressively increasing investment, especially from the industrial sector to further spur national economic growth. To accommodate the realization of these investments, the development of industrial zones is needed.

"This strategic move is in accordance with the mandate of Law No. 3 of 2014 concerning Industry, because industry must be inside an industrial zone," said Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita at the Dialogues Meeting for Priority Industrial Estate Development in Jakarta, Tuesday (12/10) .

To date, there are 103 industrial zones in operation with a total area coverage of 55,000 hectares. In addition, there are 15 industrial zones that are still under construction and 10 industrial zones in the planning stage.

Of the total 103 zones, 58 are located on the island of Java. Then 33 industrial zones on the island of Sumatra, 8 in Kalimantan and 4 in Sulawesi.

Going forward, the industrial zone on Java will focus on developing high-tech industries, labor-intensive industries, and industries with low water consumption. Meanwhile, industrial zone outside of Java are more focused on natural resource-based industries, improving the efficiency of the logistics system and as a driver of the development of industrial zones as a new economic center.
