Garuda trade unions: We focus on maintaining operational activities

13 December 2019 11:39

JAKARTA - PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk’s (GIAA) trade unions, namely the Garuda Pilots Association (APG), Garuda Indonesia Workers Union (Sekarga), and Association of Garuda Indonesia Flight Attendants (Ikagi), have affirmed that employees of the state-owned airline are now focusing on maintaining its operational activities amid rumours that have surfaced on social media following the sacking of CEO Ari Askhara.

“Our concentration is on maintaining [the airline’s] operational activities by prioritising safety and providing the best service,” said Sekarga Executive Chairman Tomy Tampatty at a press conference at the Pulau Dua Restaurant, Central Jakarta on Thursday (12/12).

Regarding the rumours surfacing on social media related to the alleged conditions of Garuda’s flight attendants under Mr Askhara’s leadership, Mr Tampatty claims that such rumours do not affect Garuda’s employees, who are focusing on improving the airline’s image and maintaining its operational activities.

“We affirm that we are not affected [by those rumours]. We concentrate on our work because it is our duty and responsibility to take care of Garuda Indonesia, our national asset,” Mr Tampatty told IDNFinancials.com.

“We are used to being slandered, and we have seen many people having their characters assassinated that way. We will cover nothing.” (MS)
