NEW DELHI - Indonesia and India are committed to strengthening the strategic partnership between both countries to reach their bilateral trade target. The commitment was affirmed at the 6th Indonesia-India Joint Commission Meeting in New Delhi, India on Friday (13/12).

“Through this meeting, both countries are determined to increase cooperation, particularly by adopting a new strategy to reach a US$ 50 billion bilateral trade target by 2025,” said Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi in an official statement on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ website, Saturday (14/12). In the meeting, the Indian side was represented by Foreign Minister Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.

The meeting between the two foreign ministers was a follow up to an earlier meeting between President Joko Widodo and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in November 2019, with topics such as both countries’ bilateral trade target, efforts to seek an even trade balance, palm oil-related issues, and bilateral cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.

In addition, Ms Marsudi and Dr Jaishankar also discussed a number of concrete collaborations such as improving connectivity between Aceh and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands through infrastructure development in Sabang; strengthening partnership in the trade, tourism, and education sectors; and exploring direct flight routes between Indonesia and India.
