JAKARTA - The Embassy of Russia in Jakarta has confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin plans to embark on an official visit to Indonesia in 2020.

“We have been concentrating on the anticipated visit of President Vladimir Putin to Jakarta,” said Deputy Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Oleg Kopylov at a press briefing on Wednesday (18/12) as quoted by Antara.

“We have been working hard on that, and we hope the schedule will allow him to visit Jakarta in 2020 upon the invitation of President Joko Widodo.”

The Embassy is currently reviewing several documents that will be signed by Mr Widodo and Mr Putin upon the latter’s visit, including joint statements and agreements on international information security and visa scheme simplification.

“Among them is a document of the declaration on strategic partnership between Indonesia and Russia that will mark a big step ahead in the two countries' relations,” Mr Kopylov added. Mr Putin’s visit, Mr Kopylov remarked, will also symbolically mark the 70th anniversary of bilateral relations between Indonesia and Russia. (MS)
