JAKARTA - As of Thursday (2/1) PT PLN (Persero) has reactivated 2,524 distribution substations in the aftermath of the floods in the Greater Jakarta area. Out of 23,700 substations in the region, 5,010 were affected by the floods and out of the amount 2,399 are still temporarily shut down.

“Although the floods have receded in some parts with customers having reported to the PLN 123 contact centre, some distribution substations are still submerged and thus unable to supply electricity,” said PLN VP for Corporate Communications & CSR I Made Suprateka in an official statement.

PLN, Mr Suprateka added, continues to try reactivating substations in flood-affected areas through inspections, cleaning, drying, and checks in affected substations. Prior to reactivating power, PLN will ensure that the electricity network is already dry and ready to supply power.

“We apologise for the temporary power outage because we need to secure that the network is ready to supply power to avoid any electrical shock. We will reactivate [the substations] as soon as they are ready,” said Mr Suprateka. (MS)
