Foreign capital inflow reaches Rp 224.2 trillion in 2019

JAKARTA. Bank Indonesia (BI) revealed that foreign capital inflow in 2019 reached Rp 224.2 trillion.

The amount consisted of Rp 168.6 trillion in state securities, Rp 50 trillion, in stock instruments, Rp 3 trillion in corporate bonds, and Rp 2.6 trillion in Bank Indonesia Certificates.

According to BI Governor Perry Warjiyo, the large amount of foreign capital inflow in 2019 was able to maintain external stability, with foreign exchange reserves as of December 2019 projected to surpass US$ 127 billion. Higher forex reserves can indicate that the Indonesian Balance of Payment (NPI) in the fourth quarter of 2019 will record a surplus.

NPI in the third quarter of 2019 recorded a low deficit of US$ 46 million from US$ 2 billion in the previous quarter with the current account deficit (CAD) reachcing US$ 8.2 billion or 2.9% of the GDP. (AM/MS)
