Transportation Minister reviews the progress of phase I and II of Belawan Port container terminal

MEDAN - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi visited the Belawan Port, Medan to review the progress of the Phase I and II Container Terminal, on Saturday (4/1). The Minister would like to see the Belawan TPK Phase II readiness in the operation plan and Phase I TPK Progress which is planned to be collaborated with PT. Pelindo I.

"Now in Medan (North Sumatra) we have two ports namely Belawan and Kuala Tanjung. For Belawan, there are several things that will be done, we will carry out KSP (Utilization Cooperation) with Pelindo I to be developed. We hope that trading volume will increase because of its larger location and I ask for efforts to improve services, especially dredging which is still a problem," said the Minister.

The Belawan Phase I TPK development has a 350 meter long pier which was undertaken by the Ministry of Transportation, while Belawan Phase II TPK also had a length of 350 meters which construction was carried out by PT. Pelindo I.

With the Phase I and II Container Terminals, Belawan Port will get an additional 700 m pier with a total capacity of 800,000-900,000 TEUs / year, and a depth of 14 m LWS pool capable of serving post panamax or 50,000 DWT vessels. (LM)
