Telkomsel's data service traffic climbs 16% during Christmas and New Year

JAKARTA - During New Year period, data service traffic or payload Telkomsel reached 23.9 petabytes, a 16% increase compared to the average payload on normal days in 2019. Whereas compared to the New Year 2018/2019 period, data service traffic surged about 39% .

For information, the highest increase in data service traffic occurred in North Sumatra and Bali - Nusa Tenggara with an increase of about 24% and 23% compared to normal days, followed by Papua - Maluku (23%) and Central Java (21%).

Telkomsel Vice President of Corporate Communications, Denny Abidin said, "The high increase in data service traffic was triggered, among others, by increased customer activity using video streaming services on smartphones or tablet computers at new years. In addition, customers also conduct this moment activity through various social media and communicate via instant messenger which has increased in this period."

The highest contribution of data service usage in general came from customers who use data services for activities on social media which reached around 36%. Customers also watch streaming movies or videos with a contribution of around 26%. Meanwhile, text-based communication, as well as voice and video calls through instant messaging applications contribute about 17% to the use of data services. (LM)
