Indonesia and Australia team up to develop digital diplomacy

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Australia, Jakarta signed a Statement of Will on Digital Cooperation and Trilateral Partnership Development on Wednesday (8/1). The Ministry was represented by Director General of Information and Public Diplomacy Cecep Herawan, while the Embassy was represented by Australian Deputy Ambassador Allaster Cox.

The statement aims to strengthen cooperation, consultation, and collaboration between the two countries in developing digital diplomacy, which includes increasing human resource capacity and building digital infrastructure. Through the statement, both countries are expected to develop the use of digital tools to strengthen diplomacy.

“The Statement of Will also aims to increase collaboration between countries in the region, and marks a milestone in the follow-up to the Regional Conference on Digital Diplomacy [held by the Ministry in September 2019],” said Mr Herawan in an official statement.

In addition, the statement also marks the start of collaboration between the Australian government and the newly-established Indonesian Agency for International Development. According to the Ministry, the agency reflects Indonesia’s commitment to supporting international development, particularly through reducing poverty and social inequality. (MS)
